Water is a valuable commodity - especially in times of increasingly dry periods. Summers are also getting hotter in Switzerland. The recent hot summers of 2022 and 2025 have made it clear that water scarcity is also a serious issue in this country. Authorities are therefore appealing to the population to use drinking water carefully. They recommend avoiding washing cars, watering gardens or filling pools wherever possible. Some cantons have even issued specific bans.
What is often overlooked: Conventional descaling systems are among the biggest water consumers in the household. In addition to the regular need for salt, they require large quantities of water for the weekly regeneration process - several thousand liters per year for a single-family home. This not only harms the environment, but also puts a considerable strain on the household budget in view of rising water prices.
