SIKA gearwheel volume sensors are ideally suited for the detection of volume flows with high and varying viscosity in various application areas, including:
- Consumption measurement
- Control of filling processes
- Dosing of oils and chemicals
- Collection of paints / varnishes
The measuring unit consists of a precisely fitted pair of gears inside the housing. The incoming medium sets the pair of gears in rotation, whose rotational movement is detected by sensors without contact. Since each tooth generates a pulse, this provides a very high resolution to accurately measure or meter even the smallest volumes.
To obtain a flow-proportional frequency signal with two channels, two sensors are placed in the measuring unit offset by ¼ tooth pitch. With appropriate further processing of the signal, the resolution can be further increased and the flow direction detected.
It should be noted that the maximum pressure drop should not exceed 16 bar, as this limits the measuring range with highly viscous media (see pressure drop diagrams).
