The moisture transmitter is ideal for measuring the water content of wood chips. It can be specially installed in a screw conveyor or in the feed channel and is suitable for sheet thicknesses from 3 to 12 mm.

Installation instructions for the wood chip moisture transmitter (Art. No. 12199)
Prerequisites: During the measurement, the two stainless metal surfaces of the sensor must be in constant contact with the wood chips. To achieve correct measurement results, the wood chips must exert a pressure of at least 20 N/dm² on the sensor surfaces. The sensor measures the material that is in direct contact with the sensor surfaces. No electrically conductive materials may be in contact with the sensor surfaces.
Possible installation locations:
- Screw conveyor: installation at the bottom of the trough
- Feed channel with hydraulic ram: Installation on the side wall
- Bunker: Installation on the side wall (to achieve the minimum pressure, the sensor may have to be installed at an angle here).
Electrical connection: The wood chip moisture transmitter requires a supply voltage of 24 VDC (15 to 29VDC). The measurement result is supplied via an analog 4-20mA current output. A plug with open cable ends for the power supply and the analog output is included in the delivery.
Measuring principle: The wood chip moisture transmitter operates according to a special conductivity measuring principle developed by Schaller GmbH. The measuring principle is based on the fact that the electrical conductivity changes depending on the moisture of a porous material. The electrical conductivity is lower in dry material than in wet material. The evaluation electronics convert the measured conductivity value into weight percentages and show these on the display as water content.
Note for installation after a dryer: After drying, the wood chips to be measured are much drier on the outside than in the core. Therefore, if installed directly after the dryer, the measurement results will be too low. The specified minimum measuring range of 10% water content (for wood chips) can then not be achieved, the measuring range limit is higher.
