Description
The VVX15 / VVX20 / VVX25 series vortex flow sensors have been specially developed for reliable measurement of water flow in low to medium measuring ranges. Thanks to their robust design and low-maintenance measuring principle, these sensors are particularly suitable for applications in heating technology and water-carrying systems.
Since the sensor operates without moving parts, there is no mechanical wear, which ensures high operational reliability and a long service life.
Measuring principle
Flow measurement is based on the vortex or eddy measurement principle. The flow of the medium is guided past a fixed obstacle. Behind this component, alternating counter-rotating vortices are created, which periodically detach from the edges of the obstacle.
These vortices form what is known as a Kármán vortex street in the flow. The distance between the individual vortices remains constant, while their frequency of occurrence depends directly on the flow velocity.
An integrated piezoceramic sensor detects the passing vortices without coming into direct contact with the medium. The detected signals are then converted into a flow-proportional electrical frequency signal and can be used for further evaluation or control.
